Our journey to Acacia Wilderness Lodge felt like stepping into a hidden world that is quiet, wild and alive. Located on the Mweya Peninsula in Queen Elizabeth National Park, the lodge offers a peaceful escape surrounded by sweeping savannah views and wandering wildlife. My friends, Mukalazi, Kanyonyi and I spent two days and one unforgettable night here and every moment was magical. The lodge’s manager, Obita James, welcomed us with genuine warmth. Together with the receptionist, they made us feel instantly at home. Their kindness set the tone for what would become one of our most memorable stays in the wild.

Beauty and Comfort, Hand in Hand
Acacia Wilderness Lodge is a seamless blend of traditional African design and modern comfort. Our rooms were spacious, cozy and beautifully decorated with handcrafted pieces made by local artisans. The colours, textures and patterns spoke of heritage and pride, making the space feel grounded and inspiring. This thoughtful design, both elegant and earthy created the perfect place to rest after our adventures. From every corner of the lodge, you could see the land stretch out for miles.
Into the Heart of the Park
One of the highlights of our stay was a guided game drive into the national park. I drove our spacious safari vehicle, following the lodge’s expert guide as he led us into the wild. Though the rain had kept many animals hidden that morning, we were lucky to spot herds of antelope and buffalos and a few elephants grazing in the distance. The silence of the savannah, broken only by rustling leaves and distant calls, reminding us how deeply alive this place was.
The next day, we joined a boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel with Irungu Boats. As we glided along the water, life revealed itself. Hippos lounged in muddy pools. Elephants bathed on the banks. Monitor lizards crawled along the edge, crocodiles dozed in the sun and countless birds soared overhead. From the boat, the animals seemed closer more real, more present. It was a humbling reminder of how the land and water sustain so much life.
Sunset by the Pool
After a long day of exploring, returning to the lodge was pure joy. The infinity pool faces the open plains, where animals occasionally pass by in the distance. We sat by the water, sipping cocktails, watching the golden Ugandan sun melt into the horizon. Sunset here is more than a view, it’s an experience. Quiet, glowing and unforgettable.

A Taste of Uganda
The food at Acacia Wilderness Lodge was another highlight. Each meal, a three-course delight was full of local flavour and care. The chefs created dishes using fresh, regional ingredients, including fish from nearby Kazinga Fishing Village and honey from local farms. Every bite tasted like home, even in the heart of the wild.
We were also lucky to meet the lodge’s barista, whose passion for coffee turned every cup into a ceremony. He brewed coffee using locally grown beans and the rich aroma followed us through the lodge like a gentle promise of comfort.
More Than a Stay
Obita, the lodge manager, shared with us what makes Acacia so special. Beyond its location and views, he spoke of its commitment to sustainability and community. The lodge works closely with local groups like the Kyambura Women’s Group, from whom they buy baskets and décor. There are no fences around the lodge which is an intentional choice to coexist peacefully with wildlife. Obita explained that lions, hippos and warthogs often wander near the cottages, creating thrilling but safe encounters. One of the most unforgettable moments he recalled was when a pride of lions took over a cottage in the early days of the lodge. The staff handled it calmly and while it once seemed risky to share that story, it has since become part of what draws guests in this real, raw connection with nature.

The Full Experience
Acacia Wilderness Lodge offers more than accommodation. Guests can enjoy boat cruises, game drives, ziplining at Jobi Adventure Park, visiting lions in Ishasha, chimpanzees in Kyambura, visits to salt lakes and flamingo spots, or even bush breakfasts under the trees. With 30 rooms, family, single and couple options, the lodge can host up to 60 guests. There’s also a children’s play area, a bar called Happy Cubs and eco-friendly touches throughout the property. Every evening, rangers patrol the lodge grounds to ensure safety for both people and animals. Waste is carefully managed to keep wildlife safe and the use of plastics is being phased out in favour of sustainable materials.
A Place for Sun Lovers and Story Seekers
For anyone who loves the sun, Obita says, “This is the place to be.” The sunsets over Lake Edward, with the mountains of Congo in the background, are unlike anything else. They are golden, glowing and deeply calming. For those seeking more than just a real experience, rooted in nature, culture and care, Acacia Wilderness Lodge is where stories begin.
